Description

Optimizing Migraine Management: A Guide to Acute and Preventive Therapy

Activity type: Knowledge-based

Format: Live via webinar

Date: March 18, 2026 12:00-1:00pm via webinar

CPE Credit: 1.0 contact hour (0.1 CEU)

Target Audience: Pharmacists in any practice setting.

Why Attend: Updates to clinical guidelines for both acute and preventative migraine management were published in 2025 by the American College of Physicians. The use of CGRP receptor antagonists for management of migraines also continues to evolve. Despite the availability of evidence-based guidelines and an expanding range of treatment options, care gaps in migraine management remain, highlighting a need for targeted pharmacist education focused on appropriate therapy selection, patient counseling, and monitoring.

Objectives:

  1. Review acute and preventive migraine management options based on mechanism of action, clinical efficacy, safety considerations, and patient-specific factors.
  2. Summarize current guideline recommendations for the selection and sequencing of acute and preventive migraine medications.
  3. Discuss the role of pharmacists in patient making evidence-based recommendation, optimizing therapy, counseling patients, and monitoring to support treatment.
